Pole represents a further evolution of VEUVE’s musical approach. Regarding song composition, it marks a passage over the two previous albums. Each song has been initially inspired by extended, tripping jam sessions and then developed into a cohesive flow of music. The tracks’ structures are often unconventional and unexpected. However, they maintain the “stoner cornerstones” with heavily fuzzed guitars and bass, accompanied by big, fat drumming. Ultimately, Pole combines the band’s diverse influences, ranging from the Canterbury scene to 90s Post-metal.
The opening track “Land Of Denial” is the most bluesy and outspoken one, inspired by the character V.M. Varga from the TV series “Fargo.” Gradually, Pole delves into a wide spectrum of styles and sounds, starting with the single “The Thaw,” a classic and groovy song with a dramatic twist at the end, flavored with a 70s-style synth solo. “Quest For Fire” fully embodies every aspect of the album: a more than 10-minute roller coaster featuring one of the most monolithic riffs, interspersed with clean, dreamy choruses, and ending with a melting climax. “Inner Desert” and “The Sudden Light” were originally a 25-minute track. Split in two, they still merge seamlessly painting a wide variety of instrumental soundscapes, yet keeping their structured core. “Thrive On Empty Temples” wraps it all up with a classic Hard Rock grand finale. Each track naturally guides the listener through a flow of fuzz and infinite delays.
