It can be difficult, in this era of homogenized pre-­packaged sonic waste we call "rock music", to happen upon a truly unique undertaking. Too often, the hard sell is pushed aside for the easy dollar and those who dare to experiment and fuck with the template are passed over for the safe bet, the also­ Ran, the four chord pop song. How rare to find an outfit, let alone two, then, that dare to buck the trend and explore new territory, but in this split between Dublin stoner-­doom-psych trio Electric Taurus and Italian instrumental masters Prehistoric Pigs, sonic decadence and musical experimentation are the order of the day. Steeped in the heady vibes of the best of late sixties and early seventies hard rock and psychedelia, these tracks showcase two of the most forward thinking eclectic bands in the stoner/doom scene today, at the height of their creative powers. On the one hand, there is Electric Taurus, and their track "Behind The Sun", a heavy space-rock freakout recalling the likes of Floyd and Zeppelin at their rawest and most hard hitting. Featuring a guest vocal performance from Barbara "Babz" Allen of Irish blues rock titans Crafty Fuzz, the track veers from passages of smoked out cosmic bewitchery to moments of monolithic Sabbathian riffing, all anchored by Allen's astonishing vocal hook. On the other side there is Prehistoric Pigs and their almost anarchic, freewheeling approach to their instrumental desert rock. Picture "Blues For The Red Sun" era Kyuss (sans John Garica of course) driving to meet Karma To Burn in a head on stoner rock collision and you'll be some way to describing the sublime noise conjured by these three disciples of the riff.

Electric Taurus e Prehistoric Pigs presentano il loro split prodotto e distribuito da Go Down Records. Le due band si incontrano alla Moonlight Records, loro precedente etichetta, sul finire del 2012. Entrambi rispettano i loro lavori e nasce immediatamente una amicizia virtuale fatta di scambi di informazioni riguardo i propri background e infinite conversazione riguardanti la strumentazione. Nell'estate del 2013 gli Electric Taurus ospitano a Dublino per due date i Prehistoric Pigs ed il sodalizio viene cementato con la decisione di realizzare uno split. Go Down Records si dimostra subito interessata al lavoro di entrambi i gruppi e decide di far uscire l'album in formato vinile 12". Gli Electric Taurus presentano una singola canzone di 16 minuti "Behind The Sun", un misto di heavy-blues e space-rock. Per questo lavoro si affidano alla guest vocalist Barbara Allen del gruppo dublinese Crafty Fuzz. La traccia passa da differenti stili, con un filo conduttore di dark psicadelia e prog-rock, intervallato da passaggi di classic doom. I Prehistoric Pigs presentano due canzoni "The Perfection Of Wisdom" e "79360 Sila Nunam". Il trio di Udine non delude e porta all'estremo quanto già dimostrato nel precedente lavoro Wormhole Generator. Uno stoner potente e feroce che prende ispirazione da molti gruppi del genere, ma che aggiunge un impronta personale. Riffs poderosi alla Kyuss si intrecciano con il groove dei Karma To Burn. La bellezza di entrambe le canzoni risiede nelle dinamiche perfette guidate dalla batteria e dal basso, mentre la chitarra è libera di volare in escursioni di profonda derivazione psicadelica. Go Down Records presenta con questa uscita due gruppi in crescita esponenziale che stanno maturando nel tempo.
