Maya Mountains
Biography
MAYA MOUNTAINS formed in Venice in 2004, but the current lineup was completed in 2005, with Alessandro Toffanello on bass and vocals, Emanuel Poletto on guitar, and Marco Bortoletto on drums. The band is close to Stoner Rock, Heavy Psych, 70s sounds, and bands like Black Sabbath, Melvins and Kyuss.
In 2006, Maya Mountains recorded their debut album Hash And Pornography with art direction by Giulio 'Ragno' Favero. The album was released via Go Down Records in 2008. After two years of intense live shows, the band went on a hiatus. Between 2010 and 2014 all members were involved in two different side-projects, called Goliath and Tundra, both under Go Down Records.
Goliath was a collective musical project, founded and managed by drummer Marco 'Martinez' Bortoletto. The 2012 self-titled album involved twenty-one musicians from the Italian stoner-doom scene of the noughties. Tundra was an instrumental project that brought together only Bortoletto and Toffanello. In 2014 they put out the album Coro.
In 2015, Maya Mountains started to compose new music. Long jam sessions, new riffs, arcane visions, and concepts were the foundations for the sophomore album Era. Recorded and mixed by Edoardo Pellizzari and produced by Alessandro Siniscalchi, Era was released in 2020 via Go Down Records.
